The performance of the 40*55*15.5 seal is dictated by the chemical and thermal demands of the application:

• NBR (Nitrile): The industry standard for agricultural and general industrial gearboxes. It offers excellent resistance to mineral-based oils and greases with an operating range of -40°C to +100°C. It is the most cost-effective solution for standard outdoor equipment.

• FKM (Fluorocarbon/Viton): Recommended for high-speed gearboxes or axles where friction and internal gear heat cause temperatures to exceed 120°C. FKM remains flexible up to 200°C and is immune to the aggressive sulfur/phosphorus additives found in modern synthetic Extreme Pressure (EP) gear oils that can cause NBR to harden and crack.

From a maintenance engineering perspective, the longevity of a Combi seal is highly dependent on the condition of the 40mm rotating shaft.

1. Shaft Surface Finish: The shaft must be polished to a surface roughness of 0.2 to 0.4 μm Ra. Any spiraling “lead” from grinding will act as a pump, pulling oil out or dirt in.

2. Grease Packing: It is critical to heavily pack the internal cavity between the dirt excluder lip and the primary oil lip with a high-quality, water-resistant lithium complex grease during installation. This provides essential boundary lubrication for the outer lips during initial startup.

3. Square Pressing: Due to the deep 15.5mm profile, the seal must be pressed into the 55mm bore using a dedicated mandrel to ensure it is perfectly square. A canted seal will cause uneven lip pressure and immediate weeping.
