As the system reaches operational loads, the fluid pressure deforms the O-ring, which in turn increases the radial contact force of the PTFE slide ring against the cylinder bore. This mechanism ensures that the sealing force is always proportional to the system pressure. The specific 4.2mm cross-section is optimized to facilitate a hydrodynamic oil film, reducing wear and heat generation during high-frequency reciprocating cycles.

In demanding hydraulic environments, standard rubber seals often fail due to extrusion or high thermal friction. Our Glyd Rings utilize a Bronze-filled PTFE matrix, which offers significantly higher compressive strength and superior thermal conductivity compared to virgin PTFE or NBR. This material selection allows the seal to operate within a temperature range of -30°C to +110°C while resisting the “cold flow” common in lesser materials. The bronze reinforcement acts as a solid lubricant, protecting the seal face during dry-start conditions and extending the service life of the cylinder bore.

From a maintenance perspective, the 60*49*4.2 size is engineered for a “snap-in” fit into closed grooves, though we recommend using an expansion mandrel or heating the PTFE ring in oil to 80°C – 100°C for easier installation.
