Material Selection & Durability: NBR, FKM, and HNBR Profiles
Selecting the appropriate elastomer is critical for flowline safety. For standard hydraulic and water-based mud services (up to 100°C), our NBR (Nitrile) variant provides excellent tear resistance and cost-efficiency. For environments exposing the union to synthetic drilling fluids, aromatic hydrocarbons, or operating temperatures exceeding 200°C, the FKM (Viton®) seal is required to prevent material swelling and blowout. Furthermore, for highly hazardous Sour Gas (H2S) applications, we utilize HNBR, which offers the ultimate combination of mechanical toughness, chemical inertness, and protection against explosive decompression. Anti-extrusion brass or stainless steel backup rings can be integrated for extreme high-pressure surges.

Installation & Maintenance: Ensuring Safe Rig Operations
Proper assembly of a hammer union is paramount; a mismatched or improperly seated seal can result in catastrophic failure. The CFKS Hammer Union Seal is designed for a precise “snap-fit” into the detent within the female sub, preventing loss during field assembly. Before installation, operators must inspect the metal seating surfaces for pitting or corrosion, as an elastomer cannot compensate for severely degraded hardware. Maintenance protocols should dictate immediate seal replacement if the elastomer exhibits any signs of “nibbling,” hardening, or compression set after teardown.
